For those of you who joined qualtrics pre acquisition and ipo, how was your equity payout?

If you’ve been at Qualtrics for a long time, did you get a big payout during the ipo or acquisition? Did long time Q employees feel happy that they had stuck with qualtrics, or did some people feel that they were mislead about the value of their equity? I considered joining qualtrics out of college in ~2016 and was offered some number of equity “units”. I think the recruiter said the total value was 40k but I may be wrong. Im wondering if that would’ve been worth much more today 🤔

I've made slightly more than I thought I would, but not life-changing money from the IPO. I think most people are in the same boat- we made out OK but there were plenty of other opportunities that would have done similar.

We were no Airbnb or door dash, unfortunately

Have been at company for a while. Was fairly junior at acquisition, made a couple hundred grand as it vested. Have received significantly more equity since the IPO than I was given before the IPO. Overall I’d say I’ve made way more money at Qualtrics than I ever thought I’d make.

It wasn’t life changing amount but was aggressively median amount. Hind sight 20/20 type of situation. I think what I consider as very valuable is the experience we learned from the acquisition to IPO.

Hey I am joining soon. How is the stock price of the initial grant calculated? Is it based on the closing price on the grant date or is it based on 30-day average price?

There is a blend of “got to do more than I expected,” though at the same time “promises were not kept in terms of my job/career growth” and ultimately “solid pay out but easily would have been more money if you had tier 1/2 tech offers” Speaking as non Eng and mid/senior level individual contributor for most of my time at Qualtrics

It's hard to get numbers. Remember the acquisition from SAP? It worked out different for Employees joining before the acquisition vs the ones joining post acquisition but before IPO. Overall the net sum is positive but nothing crazy like some other IPOs. It might get crazy in next few years if the company continues to perform like it does today.

- We were worth ~5-6B in 2018 and got bought for 8B so a decent premium at the time though a big tax burden since it all came at once (first world problem) - We IPO'd in 2021 at ~18B but SAP had already bought all our stock so none of us benefited from the 8B -> 18B increase except for SAP. If you still had pre-aquisition grants vesting in 2021 you were now really sad that they were paying out at an 8B valuation instead of 18B - Our first XM grants are about to vest but we're trading under our IPO value so we're all sad again I think most people that joined pre-aquisition would say they got shafted. We tended to down level people pre-aquisition and recruiters really overstated our stock value when selling folks so the money you made was really just slightly above average of what you would have gotten at any FAANG and maybe even less if you consider their stock growth during Covid. TL;DR - you shouldn't have any regrets

I think there's a pretty good chance someone joining today will make more money in the next four years than I did in my four years getting in early. But also think there's a decent chance leadership finds a way to screw employees again. And even if they don't, it's not worth putting up w the company IMO

Your recruiter should be able to answer that. I'm pretty sure your vesting wont start until a couple months after you start though. We only approve them every so often so you've got to wait for that.

Recruiter told me stock grant dates coming up are feb 1 and may 1. Depending on when i join

Keep in mind that a good portion of long-timers are in Provo Utah which means the amount of money they are seeing is, to scale and cost of living, much higher than those in Seattle or other large tech markets. I came from Amazon and given the AMZN stock performance during the last 2 years, staying at Amazon (at a lower L#, less responsibility) would have been about 20% more lucrative. The Amazon TC would have been more stock heavy vs cash so for my situation it was the right move.
