I'm considering an internship there in Palo Alto for the upcoming summer. I'm on the edge about it though after reading reviews on Glassdoor. What's working there like? Work/Life balance? Are the perks even worth it?
I heard that you get your blood drawn at Palantir so that Thiel can live longer... https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/08/peter-thiel-wants-to-inject-himself-with-young-peoples-blood
LMFAO that was an awesome read. Jesus
I say do it. It's only an internship. If you hate it, it's only a couple of months
That is true. I'll hold off a bit from accepting while I interview elsewhere and hopefully make a choice then - as they've given me about a month
Engineering teams are more relaxed compared to BD teams, so you’ll be fine. I think WLB for interns is the same as in FANG companies. Go for it!
That's good to know. Any idea what it's like for a front end software engineer there? Design / Product teams and such?
I don’t know what it’s like in Palo Alto, but I know a couple of guys from London who work mainly on front end and 10-6 is a typical working day for them. But it obviously depends on your performance and personal goals.
I can only say, that I would love to spend a few months in Palo Alto with our engineering teams. WLB in our product teams is good and very different from what is being described on Glassdoor
That's good to hear. I'd be working as a front end software engineer, so not a FDE - which I think likely means product teams. Definitely considering it now given what I know.
Personally I loved it. It’s definitely not for everyone, you work on small teams on hard projects so even as an intern you’ll get lots of experience. If you don’t like traveling (if you’re an FDE intern) then probably not great. But if you like autonomy, smart people and traveling, then this is the perfect job. Everyone is smart, everyone is motivated, and you work on really cool stuff even as an intern. Plus the perks are great
Also, other companies know that Palantir has high quality engineers, so a Palantir internship will make it easier to go wherever you want afterwards if you don’t want to stay.
