With all the news around Tesla and Cruise, what is Ubers future play with AV or just long term strategy in general with mobility. What’s stopping Tesla from mass producing AV’s and then giving folks the ability to book an AV Tesla? Or would Uber partner w/ Tesla similar to Lyft’s future AV strategy. All Ubers offerings require a driver today. Not sure having an ownership stake in Aurora will move the needle that much long term. Also don’t know how great the flight/train booking announcement will actually end up being either. TC: 525k YOE: 8 #uber #tesla #cruise
Uber will basically be a platform for AVs to be called. Tesla is already a super low margin business subsidized by the government. Ride hailing their cars isn’t exactly economical.
Similar to Lyft approach, then we may see exclusive partnership announcements in the future
Cool TC.. Which company are you in OP?
No one knows what’s going to happen with AVs. No one is close to Lv4 on a commercial scale (or any scale) and you would need lv5 to turn it into a ride share business. My assumption is whoever cracks it will partner with, then undercut the major ride providers ala Netflix / Disney+. They and whatever major automakers they partner with with be the winners long term. I don’t see it happening anytime soon and I don’t see the ride share gig economy going anywhere anytime soon.
Why would you need level 5 to be a ride share business? Waymo/Cruise are aiming for level 4 and it seems reasonable to me.
I assumed it would be to remove drivers from the equation, which doesn’t happen until level 5. Level 4 still needs someone to intervene I think.
Regulations and liability. The process of running a completely CAV rideshare fleet will be under such incredible DOT regulations that it may not be something Tesla wants to try to navigate alongside their car business. A mostly MaaS company that has experience in dealing with the regulations rodeo is a bit more prepared on how to handle the liability and regulations side of this topic.

What’s stopping Tesla from mass producing AV’s and then giving folks the ability to book an AV Tesla — trillion dollar question trying to get answered for last decade or so.
Are you bullish on Uber future and how do you like working there?
That's literally why their stock is so high.
