Just got an offer from #datadog for a Senior Software Engineer position in Spain which seems surprisingly low for a senior. Does anyone know if they are lowballing me? or is that an actual fair number for a senior at Datadog in Spain? (Relax US millionaires, here things are tight) Current TC: 150K + startup lottery tickets Datadog offer: 120K
YOE? and Is this euros?
6 YOE, and yes, that's euros
Yikes, it’s fair that you ask them to at least match your current base?
I tried, but basically got a no
Why would you want to take a lower salary
Brand name, interesting work, networking with smart people...
You can put your LinkedIn title: senior software engineer in {} getting paid 150k. I think that’s a better brand name than Datadog
I think it’s a very good offer for Spain. You won’t regret living in Spain!
I already live in Spain, so no changes there
Spain is notable for being underpaid relative to European rates elsewhere, on top of Europe being underpaid relative to US. Is your current position in Spain?
Yes, both my current position and Datadog's one
If they’re offering a 30k pay cut, then say no. It seems like this isn’t a match for you. The only reason to take this would be to change markets, which you’re not doing
Why would you switch for lower TC? Are you based in the US?
Is 120k TC or just base? That's high for Spain, low for the rest of Western Europe. If I were you, I'd move out of Spain (and Europe if possible)
On the light side for europe, but considsring its spain I think its perfectly market rate. Perhaps you could negotiate up 10-15% more
