Recently installed Linux on personal computer, steam games work but Blizzard games in particular don’t (without wine). I heard the biggest reason studios were only targeting Windows was because of DirectX, and they didn’t want to rewrite graphics to use OpenGL. Now that Vulkan is a thing, this roadblock is mostly removed, right? Any change games will run on Linux now? #engineering #software
i think blizzard has pretty good macos support so it's definitely not about directx(for them at least)
Oh that’s a good point
It’s cheaper to write in DirectX12. I can also ship that on Xbox without much modification. There’s not a good fiscal reason to build a vulkan backend for PC unless I’m also shipping Android and wanted to use Vulkan there.

DirectX is probably the most supported since it comprises windows and Xbox, but Vulkan is definitely catching up. Theres a lot of people working on the vulkan portability project. It’s becoming much more common to have engines that support all the major API’s, either directly or through translation layers.
