I recently moved from one bank to another this month. My last date in my previous bank was Mar 1, which meant my benefits from there continue till the end of this month. I started employment at my new bank on Mar 11. However, I was recently told by HR their policy on new employees was that coverage doesn't begin until the 1st of the month after 30 days of hire. Which would mean, my health benefits do not begin until May 1. So, I would not be insured in the month of April. Does anyone have any such experiences and if so, what would be the best way to cover myself for the month of April? Is COBRA the only/best option here from my prior employer?
If you have a family, then definitely get insurance for one month from outside. I have not tried, but for COBRA your coverage starts from next month. Now if you pay the premium then definitely you are covered. If you do not pay you are not covered.
Can you elaborate? What exactly do you mean from outside?
There are 3rd websites which sells. If you are in California then there is a covered California. I purchased it once from outside. Search online
You have time with cobra so you don’t have to enroll right away. Don’t go to the doctor at all in April, and avoid paying cobra, but don’t waive cobra in case you have to go to the doctor
+1 play the waiting game
I think cobra is retroactive too if you end up needing it, but confirm on your own
