Came across this: https://familyinequality.wordpress.com/2013/11/23/supporting-material/ Looks like number of women attending university is increasing over the years, however the ratio of different majors still remains more or less the same (example: high representation in health services and low in engineering). Why do you think this is so, given that classes taken by boys and girls in schools are more or less the same. Follow up: Given that engineering and CS is such a lucrative and rich career option these days, why are not more women pursuing it? When you were in high-school did you come across girls being discouraged to pursue careers in engineering and boys pushed to pursue it (pushed by parents, school, community or government)

Some combination of nature and nurture. Anyone who says it is 100% of one or another way is a liar.
Because you have to work/study with a bunch of angry autistic nerds for the rest of your life - it’s not that hard to understand people
If pay is a concern, why such a high percentage in psychology and education. If you compare it to any pay scales, they will not pay as much if pay is the concern. If other things are valued more than pay, then it is a self choice.
To your question - Yes. Until a decade or so ago, engineering was considered a man's domain, which reflects the poor gender disparity today. Things are getting better though.
This isn't entirely true. Computing started off as a woman's domain because it doesn't require physical strength to do and was seen as an upgrade from secretarial work. It only started being seen as a boys domain during the 80s when home computers were being marketed with video games as toys for boys.
My GF owned video game and like it in her childhood even though I didn't own one. That didn't change things much.
Because women don't like it.
Because that is a BS survey from 2011 and an article from 2013. Also it’s not “attending university”
1)The article is from NYT 2) I think attending university would be proportional to graduating from university
You missed all of my points entirely
