I applied to a dozen east coast Amazon jobs I’m qualified for over the past 6 months, but even with a referral I couldn’t get a response. Then an amazon recruiter messaged me on LinkedIn about a team in Seattle. I don’t want to move to Seattle, but I said yes since I hadn’t been able to get a foot in the door otherwise. I just took an online assessment to start the process. Will I be able to tell the recruiter midway through the process that I’d like to be considered for positions in others locations?
It would probably be easier to join in Seattle if you get an offer and then switch internally.
Does switching internally 1) Go through similar LC white-boarding process as Interviews? 2) Involve performance metrics? 3) Minimum amount of time to spend with the team and only then one would be eligible for team and / or location switching? 4) Avoid PIP?
1. Depends on the team/HM, even if they ask whiteboard style questions there won't usually be more than 3 rounds of interviews. 2. Yes, but not really a factor if you're new to the company. 3. No. 4. No, if you're on your way to a PIP (aka on dev list), your transfer will be blocked unless the VP of the team you're transferring to approves your transfer (quite rare). If you're already on PIP I believe it's impossible to transfer.

Typically Hiring manager and Recruiter are a One-on-One team. Unless you are exceptional that they want to accommodate everything in their means to get you into Amazon, there is greater chance of withdrawing despite making an offer if you express your intentions to work at a different location possibly with a different team than the one you had applied and interviewed for. Your best bet could be a multi location team, however, that's really the Hiring Manager's discretion again.
