Getting offers from Nigeria

I tried using the "get more offers" option on the app but the process ended with a message saying blind targets US based talent only. I have 3YOE writing JavaScript/Typescript and I am looking to earn more than my current compensation that is equivalent to 4k USD per annum, any ideas or referral will be a massive help, thank you #software #engineering #swe

4k per annum, that’s crazy.

1k USD per annum is more crazy

Yeah, it's that rough, I actually tried Microsoft Nigeria and I think Amazon has a little recruiting shindig, both didn't work out, Microsoft Nigeria ended all pending SWE applications and I never heard from from Amazon after applying

I really don't have any preference for companies to work for, I just need something interesting to do that pays decently and would boost my resume/LinkedIn profile

I'm not from Nigeria, but I'm from a 3rd world country. One route is immigration . Get a master degree and try immigrating to Canada. You will definitely make way more than $4k/year as a SWE there.

I have worked for an African third-world country (more undeveloped than Nigeria) - My salary was about $2,500 per month as a mid-level engineer, but then the currency collapsed, and I left to work abroad. Great job and great people!

Maybe try F-1 and then OPT. Can get GC during three years of OPT.

I was from a third world country too. The way I did it was go to US for a bachelors, graduated and now work at Microsoft. For you, please get into a Masters program and then apply while in college. Way easier that way. The only problem is getting that F1 visa from an African country. Trying to get a US visa from an African country is an extreme sport even if you have all the documents (too much forgery such that it becomes difficult for honest people to get through, especially Nigeria).

I have something coming in our startup. When you say you do JavaScript and typescript, you mean FE work? What’s your current compensation?

Hi, a majority of my 3 yoe is in BE work, though I can read and write some React. As I mentioned earlier my current compensation in my local currency converts to 4035 USD per annum

Have you tried freelancing on something like Upwork.com? Is that something you have access to?
