Does anyone know if we can use frameworks for the take-home assessment? Kind of stumped how to create and test an API without at the least have tomcat downloaded locally and then using maven to pull dependencies #swe
Why don’t you email and ask? Usually with a take home assignment I’m looking for the candidate to ask me questions.
I picked Node.js and the requirements mentioned I can use any framework or package. Unless they specifically say you can’t, you should be free to do so.
Thank you
Usually you can ask. My bet would be that you have to use the standard lib and modify the existing skeleton application. But I am not sure if this is how it’s done across all the orgs, but this is the process that code to cloud org has.
Don't try to be fancy and add external things. That will end up costing you points (and possibly failing you altogether) and you will waste time doing things that were not meant for the assessment. I have first-hand experience. You should focus on the functionality and getting it to work. Also consider cases not presented in the examples. Don't just make the tests provided pass.
Thank you. I just wanted to know if the exam itself would include the spring framework as I can't imagine writing Java API code without some sort of framework or library
Jumping back to this. What do you mean by "external things"? Do you mean external packages of any kind? For example in many projects, it is generally accepted to use an ORM to connect to a database rather than write boilerplate database connection code which I feel would take longer. Are you saying because the ORM requires the installation of a package, it could count against you?
Don’t sweat it too much. Bar is insanely low right now so if you apply you will probably get an offer
How low are we talking? I struggle with leetcode but have no issue explaining my work or pairing with someone coding (I'm a frontend engineer). Seems like the online assessment is creating a CRUD API? Do you need to also seed a DB or can you mock data?

Why not mock data?
How would I get a server up a running? I can write one in Java and put in a socket address and all but that's a lot of work when in the real world I'd never do that
Unless i misunderstand your question, mocks and dependency injection is your answer. Api shouldn't require a server to be up and running to be tested.
