Curious to hear your thoughts on the following GitHub offer. I would be coming in as an IC non-technical role. Allegedly level 8?? TC: $242K (Year 1) | $217K (Year 2 onwards) Base: $185K Microsoft RSUs: $131K (vested over 4 years) Sign on: $25K YOE: ~5.5 years Current TC: $126K - so obviously this is a big jump for me but still curious to know if I was lowballed or if this is typical from GitHub given the economic climate. Thanks in advance. #tech #github #microsoft #offer #totalcomp
131k per year or over 4 years?
Over 4 years
So your TC will be $218k. Still a great improvement, but nowhere near what you have in your post.
Very decent offer.
IC non tech and almost tripling TC at 5.5 yoe? Take it no question this is a no brainer unless you are in the middle of another thing that pays more May i ask what sort of non tech role?
I would be executing research - I donāt want to say anything more than that but it seems like a very exciting role based on my interview process
Never heard of any non tech roles paying thisā¦.
Really? Donāt sales roles make a lot of money in a SaaS environment? What about non technical PMs? I personally donāt consider the role Iāll be doing as ātechnicalā per say but I will be working with data
Isn't that like ~$220k TC? Which is still almost double your TC.
Just updated!
It seems pretty average for an offer from GH. Compared to other well known tech companies they pay pretty low. Considering how big of a jump it is for you, you should absolutely take it.
One of us one of us one of us. Kidding kind of - weāre a friendly bunch, and itās a good place to be. Not bad for your resume either.
Decent offer, around middle of pay range
Can I message you about GitHub?
Yes
If you don't mind, a couple of questions: 1. Did they come to you with the signon bonus or did you need to negotiate to add that? 2. How long between your loop and the verbal offer? 3. How long between accepting and having the final offer, background check, etc. all buttoned up? Thanks!
1. They packaged my sign on bonus as paying me out for my missed bonus and stock at my old job (a less known startup). So I just gave them the numbers of what it would cost to buy me out and what I would be losing if I left. They then added a $5K buffer on that. I was pleasantly surprised! So definitely donāt be afraid to negotiate / get creative with what your sign up bonus could look like 2. It was a longer process since they were going through HR changes that at one point I thought they forgot about me. 15 weeks š even tho there were only 3-4 interview rounds lol 3. About 3-4 weeks! This surprised cause at my previous roles they moved so much faster
Thank you! Are you still liking it there? Does it feel like a Microsoft subsidiary these days, or does it still have a bit of its own vibe?
Just take it. Base alone kills your current salary
lol very true š
