Going to Amazon vs staying in Shopify
Hi there! Recently landed an offer at Amazon in Canada. Haven’t started negotiations but the offer details are below: Team : Alexa devices Base : 143k CAD Sign on : 81k CAD RSU: 33 units Current Shopify TC: Base : 120k CAD RSU : 75k USD ( back in mid may) Not sure if I should take it or not. Shopify has a lot of random perks but TC is lower while Amazon is basically the other way around. What do you guys think?
Also consider AMZ culture. I think it would be a shock coming from Shopify. I would interview elsewhere for CA personally. Google, Snap, Square, etc etc
Was at Amazon for ~5 years. You will learn a lot and probably work on fun projects. You're also likely to exhaust yourself if you don't set limits on how much you work. You may find that work a great experience, but be mindful that it's likely not long term.
Stay at Shopify for sure.
Amazon Canada is a breeze. It’s not like the US or the horror stories you heard. Take the plunge, it’ll look good to have 2 of the biggest retail companies on your resume.

Amazon Canada is exactly as Amazon US. My team has presence in both NY and Toronto. All the folks in TO roll up to my skip, have the same goals and wlb. Only the pay is 30-40% lower. And did I say they are PIP fodder as well?
How long have you been at Shopify? Did you just recently join?

If you joined just a few months ago don’t you think you should stay on for a year at least? Otherwise they might ask you to pay back sign on etc if you got it to say nothing about the fact that you can’t list Shopify on your resume if it is only 3 months.
What is your YOE? I don’t think that small jump would matter if you have at least 4 years of exp

Why did you start interviewing after only 3 months at Shopify? Is it comp related?
It was more just to try stuff out. Didn’t even expected an offer.

Stay at Shopify. Compensation per hour actually worked at Shopify is pretty high to be honest.
