I currently have a job in a FAANG company for about 3 years (since college) and I like it so far but I’m starting to get the itch to work for a smaller company as I feel that there is an opportunity to work on some high impact and exciting projects. Companies like Robinhood, Lyft, and Samsara seem to be doing some really cool things compared to what I’m doing at my current job. I think the thing I’m struggling with is willing to take a pay cut and give up some benefits. tbh I do not think Apple pays that much compared to other FAANG but I also feel that I do not want to take a step back in terms of compensation. Any advice for this totally silly first world problem? Do non FAANG companies compensate as much as FAANG? Or should I focus on the work over the money? IC3 at Apple 141K base ~18K bonus each year ~ 99K in RSU (includes my yearly vesting schedule from initial offer plus refreshers from 2019 and 2020). Please let me know if I have incorrectly calculated my TC!
What's your TC right now, so we can guide you?
Updated description! Thanks a ton! IC3 at Apple 141K base ~18K bonus each year ~ 99K in RSU (includes refreshers from 2019 and 2020)
Your TC is low
Yes they do. They are paying for your talent, not the fact that you worked at a particular company.
They pay for cost of labor not talent. 3 yoe IC is not worth 250k+
True, most recruiters think like this
IC3 at Apple 141K base ~18K bonus each year ~ 99K in RSU (includes refreshers from 2019 and 2020)
What have your ratings and refreshers been at IC3? :) To answer your question: yes companies like Lyft, snap, Instacart, Tik tok, Uber etc def pay more and you should go for it if you believe in the company and like the team you’ll be joining. Just get a few competing offers.
Uber does not necessarily pay more for the IC3 equivalent. My SDE II TC at Uber was less than what you listed here, assuming your RSU number is 99k per year. EDIT: Not to mention the stock performance is absolute trash, and has a grim outlook considering R&D is effectively dead.
Stripe pays more than FAANG I picked Stripe over max offer from FB
Can confirm stripe pays more than us lol
Due to latest RSU policy, striked it off my list.
A lot of Non-FAANG companies pay more than FAANG. It really is just a stock term. https://www.levels.fyi/2020/
Crowdstrike definitely does for some certain roles.
Did you have a certain question you wanted answered? It’s pretty common knowledge that smaller companies pay more than FAANG.
Is that a bay area salary?
What about a notch lower? I mean late stage unicorn startups - do they pay at par with FAANG?

Lyft pays more than any faang! Robinhood pay is at par. Don't see a reason why you shouldn't go ahead and explore those opportunities!
Cap if anything Robinhood pays higher than Lyft and without the stupid stock agreement
Level.fyi disagrees with you @buqP33
