Goldman Sachs Bonus Question
I have received an offer from Goldman Sachs for software engineer position and the recruiter promised me 75K bonus. Only base salary is mentioned in the official offer letter. I am skeptical to sign the offer letter. Does the 75K bonus stays every year as long as I meet expectations? Did the bonus decrease or increase for anyone? Can you please share your experience around bonus part of your compensation? If it’s first year and recruiter says it’s guaranteed, it’s guaranteed. Second year it might or might not go down.

Yes, it might because other than your performance, it's based on the company's performance and how your managing director ranked you. Bonuses can and occasionally do go down.
In first year also the bonus is pro rated . If you served 6 months then you will get half the amount.
It’s not pro rated. So I will be getting full bonus
The bonus was not pro rated for me. I joined the firm around June and got full bonus. It also depends upon the negotiation.

I’m in the asset management division as well. And lol. If you get a full 75k for doing 6 months of work they will adjust it way down to average your TC down. If I had to guess I would say your second year bonus will be 35k +- 10k. In fact I will bet you any amount of money it will be less than 75k
To put it more bluntly. You will get fucked the second year. I’ve seen it many times. Possible zero bonus.

Haha. Of course! I almost guarantee it will be <75k your second year. You would have to be the top of your stack rank for it not to be. Meaning you are rated the best in your group against your peers.

Depends - is it sign on bonus? You’ll get 100%. If it’s end of year bonus, then it’s more likely that the bonus is pro rated
As others said, it’ll be guaranteed for the first year but not for the upcoming years
You TC will go down in second year that’s how they balance out the budget
