Goldman Sachs vs Walmart

I don't think I will get any stocks from Walmart in the current year. And I will only get 33 percent of the 50k next year. so this year's TC will be close to 150k. 7 YOE + MS

Have you ever been to Arkansas? It sucks.

Goldman Sachs gerua OP Apr 25

I am not so big on Partying and Socializing at this point. I am on a student VISA that expires in 2 years. My goal is to save as much money as possible to pay it off

Have you ever been to Arkansas? The northwest part of the state is beautiful. I think most people here are just commenting their perception of Arkansas, not the reality.

is 50k over 3 years?

Goldman Sachs gerua OP Apr 24

its 50k per year. But it vests over 3 yrs. So first year 16k, 2nd year 33k. 3rd year 50k

Where is the GS job?

Goldman Sachs gerua OP Apr 25

Salt Lake City, Utah

Walmart jumperr Apr 25

I was there before I switched. Honestly GS will give you decent growth but modest salary. SLC is a fine place albeit small. Depends on your mindset - if you want growth as a dev - choose Walmart (not that it is too great but just that that’s your only alternative). I still think the tech stack was better in GS vs Walmart where considerable amount of the stuff is still hooked on to legacy Linux boxes but you’ll learn at both places.

Arkansas really is a shit state, nothing to do there bro

Goldman Sachs gerua OP Apr 25

My goal is to save money to pay off my student loans in the next 2 years (that's when my visa expires). I am not big on Socializing and partying

Sam's Club wmtBaba Apr 25

Then it is a good place to go - I think things are getting expensive there

Walmart platfomyes Apr 25

Location sucks and Walmart is a mess currently with Amazon influx

Goldman Sachs gerua OP Apr 25

I haven't had the opportunity to ever work with AWS/GCP/Azure at work and it seems Walmart's tech stack is modern (GS has legacy systems) I am 7 YOE + an MS, so my goal is to work with cloud have it on my resume so that I can switch for a senior role asap

Your call and have been forewarned

The people saying Arkansas sucks are just clueless. It's similar to the midwest in that there's a lot of cool rivers, lakes and caverns to explore. The people are also great.

MongoDB MKgB72 Apr 25

This is the truth. Most people here are just commenting their perceptions of Arkansas and not the reality. If you like doing things outdoors it's a great area to be in. If anything I would consider Arkansas a hidden gem.

I went to Arkansas it sucks, especially near Walmart where he will be working
