Pretty bored now with PayPal. I joined Venmo about 6 years ago and whole org merged with PayPal. All early stage engineers are out or on the way out and now I want to head out as well. What are some good companies with work life balance (40 hours or less), offer remote and can pay close to 450-500 at senior/staff level. My skill is mostly backend Java although I have played around a bit with ML (more a novice/begginer) as part of some projects and have done front end work on react (as fun projects). Total Years of Experience: 12 TC: 400k (reduced to 350k with falling stock) Currently T-27 in PayPal (promoted to Staff Engineer in Venmo 2 years ago)
Reach out if you want referral for Meta. Many teams have awesome work life balance
Whats the story with hiring freeze at e5 +?
Which teams? @meta
Are you sure? Heard FB engineers work a lot
Unfortunately you won't get senior position and are too experienced for junior ones. Unless you want to play the LC game and work longer hours initially look for 2nd tiers options with lower pay and rest.
Why do you say they won't get a senior position? And is "too experienced for junior" really a thing? I ask because I'm prepping to transition from defense work to big tech hopefully with 15 YOE. Hoping for senior (or staff) but would gladly take an L5 at Amazon for example. I definitely do not mind LC or longer hours.
Yeah in your case L5 is possible since you don't mind grinding as per Fangs wishes. I mean if you interview for L4 at 15 yoe there better be a good reason to explain it otherwise it's hard to justify. Fangs tend to be more younger engineers so competing with college grads is gonna be hard.

OP can you dm ? I have offer for T27 at PayPal and wanted your opinion
You’re not aiming high enough. Just the other day, someone with 4 YOE posted about $450k TC at dropbox. Went on LinkedIn and saw an Airbnb engineer making $575k with 7 YOE. You can do better
How is that even possible?! 4 years experience earning 400K?! Not sure how much to trust anonymous review anymore
I am sure that could be the case but I am used to coasting for last few years working less than 40 hours. Honestly all my friends at work are leaving. And don’t have the energy to work with non Venmo folks. For me less hours bigger priority than maximizing comp
