I didn't know Google Brain is perceived better than FAIR so overwhelmingly. For anybody who has an AI Research background, can you leave your choice and reasons in the comments?
It's not even a fair competition 😂
Why lol, I thought FAIR was also very good.
Blind is full of SWEs (who have crush on Google) and not Applied Scientist. The poll results may not make much sense
Wow I thought FAIR is a no-brainer until I saw the poll result
Looking at NeurIPs 2021, Google had the most papers. In the NLP field, Google came out with transformer and BERT, probably the most important contribution in the field in last 4-5 years. https://www.vinai.io/an-overview-of-neurips-2021s-publications/
Why is it still FAIR? What about MetaAIR?
Both are great. Brain has more politics and some toxic managers. Check out the late dramas and there is a post a while ago about this on Blind (a RS wants to move from Brain to FAIR). FAIR is betting on Self-Supervised Learning and they are doing some other cool stuff too. Honestly, the org does not matter, both are prestigious, what matters is the researcher you will work with and collaborate with.
Most people who vote on this may not even come up with one recent paper published by either org
I am an L5 RS in Google Brain who is essentially facing the same dilemma with you, OP. Please checkout my own post. https://www.teamblind.com/post/58S37FAA?cid=20928900 Also, if possible, mind DM-ing me so that we can talk more? I can share with you some insights, but I also hope to hear from you, what do people outside Brain / FAIR think about these two places?
Getting Brain is always prestigious 🧠
