Is Google Cloud getting 🪓 soon? https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/networking/eliminating-data-transfer-fees-when-migrating-off-google-cloud
I think it would be extremely difficult to simply shutdown, given there are many customers who have built things on top of it and likely in many cases this was done with long term contracts in place. More likely a spin off or acquisition (Microsoft maybe?)
When is samsung abandoning their phone business?
Already abandoned the smartphone market in China. Focus on America, Europe and Korea for flagship. Lower end phones in India.
Should soon be abandoning America and Europe. Puts on south korea’s economy
It’s a $27B business for Google. Cloud is always a higher margin business. Why would Google kill it.
Also, it's the only alternative to ads Google has right now, investors are betting on it. If they shutdown Cloud, then Google becomes a one-trick pony again, like Meta. I think they would keep it running even if it was at breakeven, though now its turning a profit. They may shut down Cloud products that are not getting traction, but I think they will keep the Cloud business itself running, at least so that investors don't worry that all of Google's eggs are tied to only the ads basket.
Agreed. Deep pocketed investors focused Google would certainly keep cloud business running to maintain stock price ( reasons you stated)
Cus Capex and Opex
Yup, every minor decision is the end of Google these days. Remember how ChatGPT was supposedly the end of Google search? Well, Google hasn’t even lost 1% of market share for Microsoft 😁 RIP 🪦 Google for waiving egress fees for customers who want to leave 🤣 On a serious note this is a sign of strength where we help customers leave if they want to by making it cheaper and easier.
Kool aid bro right here
Microsoft is a stupid place to work but better for shareholders. They suck blood of employees for higher margins
I imagine this is more a case of "Try us and you can leave without cost if you don't really like us" as an incentive to try Google Cloud and hoping the product mix convinces them to stay rather than not try Google Cloud at all...
This is just a strategy to show we are platform agnostic and we just want you “as customers to try our portfolio offering without having to worry”. GCP is growing and op thinks it’s getting axed 🤦🏽♂️ for all the effort n money that was spent to bring it where it is today to just kill lol ?
That or Google is putting down a challenge that will coerce regulators to make their competitors de-fortress. Think when Ally initiated the end of overdraft fees.
Why
The blog post suggests GCP is encouraging customers to leave.
Op is an idiot
