Hello, I have potential offers coming in from both Google hardware (Pixel) and Facebook Reality Labs (AR/VR) for a wireless role (not SWE). Assuming the offers are comparable, which company has better growth opportunities, WLB, and overall better culture? I don't have the numbers yet for the two offers. Old TC -- 🥜 YoE -- < 2 #hardware #wireless
Just an opinion AR/VR have the hype that drones have had previously. Only difference being big tech is involved on this train. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of potential but idk how much of it is monetizable near term. If I had 2 years exp., I'd rather go to Google and learn. Pixel seems to have gone through a leadership change for many teams and their upcoming products speak a lot about their direction. I'd go for this and have a relatively mature learning opportunity before diving into something like FRL
Thank you for the insights!
FB will have higher TC but GOOG for better HW growth opportunities.
I bet once you get the offers, it’ll be clear.
Update on the poll -- divided straight down the middle!
OP, just curious are you in firmware? I'm considering FRL too
Which role will you be working when you say HW? I assume it is not asic related? I work for google hw and have several friends working at reality lab. I might be able to help if you can provide more context. BTW are you in Santa Clara or SD, I worked for Qualcomm before google.
Hello, apologies for the delayed response. I interviewed for the role for wireless systems engineer. It's not core HW but more of a systems role.
Do you have a PhD?
Hello everyone, thank you for responding to the post and voting on the poll. I have accepted the position in FRL (or Meta, as they're called now). The offers were mostly similar but the work in FRL seemed more interesting. I will be working as a wireless systems engineer. If anyone has any queries on the interview process, please send me a DM.
Congratulations! Please update the post with offers.
@QC2FRL: CAN I DM you, in final stages with Google HW sys. Would like to know more.
I don't have any estimate, but given the turmoil FB is heading into stock growth will be limited compared to GOOG so consider that when making a decision. Also, update the post when you get offers.
Thanks for the insight. Will certainly update the post with the offer numbers.
