Google Hiring Freeze Updates - Week of 08/29/22
Creating a separate thread to track the any progress on this topic for this week. There has be a tremendous response and a ton of useful information posted in the past couple of weeks. Let us continue doing so going in to week #4. Summary for this past week: 1. We did see more critical/prioritized roles (SWE in Android, YouTube, Core Platform, Ads, etc) come out of freeze and offers were extended in the week of 08/22/22. 2. The earliest start dates still seem to be dated in Q4. 3. Prioritization is still on going in some organizations including Google Cloud (GCP). The expectations for GCP is this process might continue till end of August of even in to September. Many sources indicate that we might see some progress this week. Fingers crossed :) 4. Bug your RCs every week and reminds them of your existence, even if you get a standard no-update update. 5. L3 positions seem feasible only in 2023 (with some exceptions) and L4 seem to dwindle down rapidly. Some L5 positions have been cut as well. It would be great to know if anyone (regardless of level, role, etc.) are receiving offers after the freeze kicked in and please post any useful updates provided by your recruiters. Stuck in last stages of compensation negotiation when freeze started. Next step: Hope the freeze lifts and position exists to continue to offer letter stage. Still here, hello to all that have been along this multi month journey. L6 SWE EM, still frozen, last update was early Monday 8/22 saying that they very strongly expected an update last Thurs 8/25 (which did not come). I tend to follow up on Mondays or Tuesdays and will do so again tomorrow. Did my onsite in late June, cleared HC ~2 weeks later, TM'd for the next couple of weeks then the freeze hit. I'm matched with a couple of teams, none of which can formally lock in until after the freeze but all of them assure me that I am their top choice (who knows).
Iām curious if this update applies similarly to PMs, or just engineering?

Just curious, are you cruising at AWS right now? (Doing the bare minimum?)
Cruising as in, doesn't work on Sundays and thus is able to spend 10 mins writing this post to the benefit of many others?
post is helpful but wondering how OP is handling working at Amazon knowing they are close to working at google. I wouldn't be able to concentrate at work.
