Creating a separate thread to track the any progress on this topic for this week. There has be a tremendous response and a ton of useful information posted in the past couple of weeks. Let us continue doing so going in to week #3. Summary for this past week: 1. As we expected last week, we did see some set of critical roles come out of freeze and offers were extended in the week of 08/15/22. 2. The earliest start dates still seem to be dated in Q4. 3. Prioritization is still on going in some organizations including Google Cloud (GCP). The expectations for GCP is this process might continue till end of August of even in to September. 4. L3 positions seem feasible only in 2023 (with some exceptions) and L4 seem to dwindle down rapidly. It would be great to know if anyone (regardless of level, role, etc.) are receiving offers after the freeze kicked in and please post any useful updates provided by your recruiters. L4 SWE, recruiter said no updates and expecting some sort of update this wednesday

Recruiter reached out to me on Friday, said there were no updates to share but mentioned that I was tentatively being looked at for L4/L5 but still need to go through HC. Role: UX Interaction Design (L4-L5) Team & Location: Flutter (Chicago/Remote) Last stage cleared: Interview loop completed w/additional reinterview (completed late July) and positive feedback.
What was the reinterview for?
RC told me they had inconclusive feedback from one interviewer (neither positive or negative) so they wanted me to reinterview for that particular hat to have positive feedback all around, for which ended up happening for me (thank the old gods and the new).
@ByteDance Usually, in the case of a verbal offer, there is no witness or any other proof of offer or associated conditions. That's the reason it's usually followed by a written confirmation. The employer offers you a job, you accept it, the employer sends across an offer letter, finally, you accept the offer in writing and a written contract is formed. It is too much of a grey area and hence not very enforceable. Besides, I was in compensation negotiation and hence no commitment was made from either side. Generally conditional offers also cannot be treated as completed contracts.

Did the recruiter elaborate on what “update” they are waiting for? Is it gonna be some generic update or concrete next steps to proceed in the process?
I think recruiters have been getting this weekly update on wednesdays (from previous blind posts). So timelines around Thursday are likely them just passing along what they know

Thank you again for these threads. L6 SWE EM, GCP with 2 other teams as backup matches in case the role goes away. post TM and HC. I did my on-site back in the last week of June. Received verbal offer before freeze. Latest update I heard on 8/22 was that they have no idea what date I should expect to know more.
I’m not in CA unfortunately. In WA, as is the role :( (backup teams are in Bay though)
