I’m currently being low balled by recruiter. I also have a solid offer from Microsoft. My comp looks like below Google L3 Seattle : First offer Base - 137000 Equity - 160000 Negotiated to Base - 137,000 Equity - 140,000 Sign on - 30000 Again negotiated to - Base - 143,000 Equity - 150,000 Sign on - 20,000 Microsoft 61 Redmond- Base - 152,000 Equity - 140,000 Sign on - 40,000 I’m looking on advices on if I should accept or negotiate more. My recruiter straight away said they can’t go anywhere beyond the last number he gave . I’m pushing for more equity , okay with taking dip in lower salary and lower bonus 😔 how can I negotiate Google’s offer if I can? Blind tax: Tc - 150000 Yoe - 5 years#engineering #software
Sorry if that's a dumb question, is that equity for a year or 4?

Dude don't take L3 take L61. Even for more salary L3 isn't worth it.
Could you please elaborate and help ? My friends who are at google L3 say that their refresher stock is pretty solid , better comp in longer Run than ms and the team changes are also smooth. Not to ignore the wlb
It's not about comp or refresher. Refresher can be 50-80K over 4 years depending on your rating. But it isn't about money at this point. Instead take msft and within a year attempt for L4 again. L3 will absolutely be humiliating and you will be assigned very grunt work
Don't take L3 at 5 YOE. Just because you were unable to solve a 2D DP problem in 30 minutes does not mean you are a bad developer. Go for MS. Try G again in a year for L4.
I love this kind of motivating. Thank you
Reject google out of principle. This is literally a new grad offer
I agree 😣
Take L61. Google is the king of lowball.
msft 61 offer looks solid. But with msft, stock refresher will be pretty minimal. Maybe try GG again in a year. GG is very hard to negotiate. The only way is if you have another competing offer with higher numbers
5 yoe and L3 at google?
Both of them are similar levels tbh. L61 is basically low L4 (maybe even high L3 with some teams) and in the long run to get to something like a senior or staff, you would probably take the same amount of time in either companies. Also, yes, taking into account peanut refreshers from MSFT, there is not much difference in TCs (maybe G is even better in the long run) Ignoring the fact you were low balled for the level with either offers (these are the only options you have), there is not much difference in the offers tbh. On the bright side, Google is a top-notch software engineering heaven to work at, much less bureaucracy and politics than MSFT, not to mention the very minimal technical debt we have, which often translates to better productivity etc. Ignoring all these and rejecting G just out of spite is, in my opinion, foolish. Both options are good at the end of the day tbh and hope you make a wise decision. It's not a matter of just comparing TCs. Congrats and Good luck!
There’s no reason to assume a long term career at either company. I also have about 5 yoe and if a company valued me literally as a new grad, I would be extremely insulted and would not enter the company with a good mindset at all
You (and OP) do what you want, but I've just given my opinion. Once again, BOTH offers are low ball, it's just that Microsoft lowballs new grads even more. Not to brag, but MSFT offered me L62 with 2 Yoe, so trust me when I say MSFT lowballed OP in this case too.
Try again next year and get an offer from Meta for leverage. Don’t accept a downlevel.
5 yoe and they only give you L3?
Yea, recruiter says that’s what HC decided. Won’t budge
Lmao that's insulting. Reject.
