Google L4 or Meta E4?

Hello blind community I have received Meta E4 offer in London. On the other hand I am also set for promo to L4 this cycle in April (or at least this is what I assume after promo soon feedback previous cycle). The comp at meta is very good, like 30k pounds more than what I'll receive at Google after the promo. Does it make sense to switch to Meta? If yes, should I try to delay my joining after I get Google promo or No? I'm considering somewhat agile growth to E5/L5 and dont really see a path to L5 at Google in my current team. I can work hard but would prefer a balanced work life. Let me know your thoughts. Another point to think about is there are no good or new teams due to layoffs in london right now. So may take time to get into new team at Google. Current TC £95k Upd: I've decided to move to Meta! #engineering #software #swe #meta #google #promotion #promo #l4 #e4 #googlel4 #metae4 #switch #comp #growth #london #unitedkingdom #uk #hike #wlb #culture #teamswitch #promosoon #facebook #instagram

Can you share meta TC?

£145k

Amazon luvkanye Jan 28

Does that include a sign on bonus? Or just base + stonks?

Google FtrG63 Jan 28

If you are happy with the job you have, just stay

Google youKnwMeNt OP Jan 28

That is a good way to see it. But I don't see any growth in my team as well

One in hand is better than half in the bush. IF they promote your to L4 and IF you get decent bump then you might be at part with E4 at meta.

Thats what I'm having in my mind as well. A lot of IFs are there.

Meta IMO, it’s much easier to get stuck as L4 at Google, you’ll probably hit L6 much faster as well. This assumes you’re trying to grind the career ladder. If not then I’d stick with your current team if you like it

Google youKnwMeNt OP Jan 29

Yup trying to push the career ladder, at least till L6 for sure.

Okay

I’d delay leaving Google till April, if you get a promo your negotiation position will be much stronger should you ever decide to come back to Google. Nevertheless, Meta will likely offer significantly better comp and much faster career growth, so if you are ready to fight - go for it.

Got it!

are you at meta london? How’s the TC like?

In general I think you should go to Meta L4 because you can get paid more and reach L5 faster that way. The biggest risk is they have higher PIP quotas, so make sure you are ready for that. Whether to wait for promo is harder to say. If it affects your Meta offer at all I would skip it. Otherwise waiting and getting it could help you re-enter at L4+, but there’s no guarantee you would get promoted. Also, it could hurt for your team if they push to get you promoted and then lose you without the possibility of backfill, but probably not a huge issue. The biggest factor is whether Meta and G are two of the only good options in your area, or if you have plenty of other better options like there are in the Bay.

Google youKnwMeNt OP Jan 29

Yeah I've realized that in my case it's hard to stay at G till promo given it's 3 months plus an additional month for the notice period. I think it's wise to leave before. But for options, honestly I'm not sure apart from a few big tech, if London has good SWE options.

How long was it from your onsite completion to offer?

Google youKnwMeNt OP Jan 29

3 weeks

Out of curiosity, how far back can you push an offer from Meta once you've been matched to a team? And same question if you haven't been matched yet?

Google youKnwMeNt OP Jan 29

1. I would say around 2.5 months 2. Not being matched to a team means no offer

Atlassian nnnnnnyyuu Jan 30

I believe earlier if you weren't matched to a team but had cleared interviews, those results were valid for a year or so. Has that stopped?

One more point to consider would be that meta stock is at an all time high right now, so expect no growth/slight decrease for the next one year atleast. What is your offer breakdown in cash+stocks+ any jb

I don't mind that :)
