Hi Blinders, Got a Google L4 offer and FB E5, still going through team matching and talking to a few GCP teams. Offer Details: Google Base: 170k Equity:590k(36%,30%,20%,14%) Bonus:15% TC: 408k 1st year Recruiter said it's the max, no more room for negotiation. FB Updated offer Base: 200k Equity: 637k( 25% each year) Sign-on: 95k Bonus: 15% TC : 480k, possibly higher TC for following years with higher refreshers Other offers: Amazon L5 - 260k Zillow P3 - 260k Waiting for Lyft T5 offer. Current TC : 220k Microsoft L62 YOE: 7 My doubt is whether to take higher level at FB with possibility of more bonus or go to Google as a mid L4 where I can get promoted in ~2 years and eventually make even higher. I don't want to be short sighted and take Higher Level/TC. Also, G vs FB wlb should be significantly different. I have heard that the expectations are higher at FB E5, so is it correct to assume that "Meeting expectation" for FB E5 == EE for Google L4? Also, what is the promotion velocity at Google? How difficult is it to be at Meets Expectations rating at FB E5 with good WLB? Thanks in Advance. Update: Accepted FB's offer found a great team with good WLB and growth opportunities.
TC wise, FB is an obvious option; wlb, nope
How come you received an offer before team match? Is this normal?
Compensation discussion and team matching are completely different processes at Google. *according to my recruiter
My recruiter said compensation discussion after team match! Weird!
How is Google is paying so high for L4? It seems like L5 offer right ?
Because OP has an E5 counter from FB, so they are giving OP L5 pay.
Go for FB E5, don’t make the same mistake as I did.
Why a mistake?
he can't get promo cause he's not good enough
If any hire manager or recruiter told you that you can expect to be promoted in 1-2 years after joining Google, they lied or at least are dishonest, this is the trick they usually use to get people down leveled. With a lower level you won’t always be able to get impactful projects and the opportunities to promotion depends on whether you are lucky.
Yeah, t3-t4 it can happen, but to get to t5 you need leadership, and that's not happening in a year or 2
Why do you need a promotion if you're already earning at the next level? Ultimately titles and levels are bullshit. Money is level.
FB E5 allows you to move to Google L5 or any other company's L5 equivalent after 2 years anyway, might as well try it? But, yes, depending on the team wlb may suck. Also don't underestimate Avoiding the stress that comes with writing promo packet and going through that long uncertain process
Only if your yoe is high. My friend was E6 at FB with 4.5 yoe but was only allowed to interview for L4/5 elsewhere.
Yeah, op has 7 YOE
Promo to L5 in 2 years? Nope. With a lower level, every time a reorg happens, your reputation is reset and your new boss will give you projects according to the L4 ladder description, meaning you may end up doing the same things as a 1 yoe person.
Haha good luck L5 in 2 years. But I still voted for Google — it’s a strong offer. Just get realistic about promotion velocity at Google.
Go to FB.
How did you get a such high end offer from google ?
Probably negotiating against FB E5
^this
More money for less responsibility, G.
Why is it more money?
If you compared to avg L5/L4 offer at G. Otherwise Yes, FB has more 💰
