Google L4 vs Microsoft L63 (PM)

I have two offers with similar TC ~240k in Seattle MS Azure L63 - higher salary, lower equity Google Cloud L4 - lower salary, higher equity I understand the leveling difference between the two companies and am aware that Google role is at a lower level. Curious how the blind masses view the tradeoffs here between level, company and compensation mix. TC: 210k, 6.5 YOE

Google any day

Google . Jan 6, 2020

Just to remind you- Google has 50% 401k match, so that’s extra 10k. I value other perks at google for 10k pretax. So if TC at MSFT is more than Google by at least 20k, then only go ahead with MSFT; otherwise Blind’s suggestion have always been Google.

MS also matches 50% 401k

Microsoft has 50% 401k match like Google.

Assuming same location I’d go with Google. Refresher stocks are a huge monetary difference. Think $75k/4 years vs $18k/5 years. Not to mention perks, monthly stock vesting, etc.

Worked at both. I'd take Google. Commuting to Microsoft if you live on the west side of the lake can be annoying. If you live on east side Google has an office over there too. Going opposite against the MS 520 traffic is better too. Never tried I-90. Google has bigger yearly bonuses (around 5x bigger for stock). It might actually be harder to get promoted at MS (into the next band) considering you'd have to move into principal next. Either way, L5 at Google makes more than 65 at Microsoft for when that promo finally happens. Google has free food and gym. WLB is similar.

Worked at Microsoft before, Google all the way. Congratulations and good luck. :)

+1 to this.

How’s the cash bonus at Google vs Microsoft?

Amazon bakchod Jan 7, 2020

The only difference between Google and Microsoft I believe is that Google has better refreshers and food. I am not sure about cash bonus at Google though whereas Microsoft has cash bonus

Google Bagbug Jan 7, 2020

Both are 15% at respective levels

Microsoft CloudSmith Jan 7, 2020

Is it 0-15% at GOOG or 0-30%?

Google! Equity refreshes are way better. However, PM roles are very team and product dependent so pick one that you are passionate about most and get along with since that’s quite important for overall satisfaction.
