I got an offer for a google SWE L4 position ~150 base, 230K stock, with ~3 years of experience. This is about 220K a year with bonus, excluding refreshers. Anyone know what happened here? This is way lower than what I currently make. Google also said this was the max they could go. I’m kind of disappointed, I see some good offers on blind here for G, and thought they could at least match my current comp. Did I just negotiate poorly, or is it my lack of experience? Not sure how I could have negotiated better because I’m literally walking away due to comp, even though the team seems real good. Maybe they just don’t like me!
Lol shit I'm in Seattle L3 and my TC is 240k with stock appreciation now
hows' the stock appreciation going now
Facebook also flat out pays better at any given level.
Sounds pretty good for 3 yrs experience, after all you’ve been working for 3 whole years.
Google is the new Microsoft. FB is the new Google
What’s Microsoft then?!
MS is TCS
Not lowball, just normal ball
BS? MS? When I received an offer L4 in Bay Area, it was 155 base, 160k stock, 20k sign on. Your offer seems fine. You’re over 200k TC with just 3 years of work experience.. chase high TC but I really think spending time on blind is skewing up the perception of average.
Totally. I think Blind is really not great for mental health it’s so total comp focused, and you get into a measuring contest. (At least I do :) ) which doesn’t make you feel good. I think OP probably just felt annoyed after going through the hassle of interviewing and high hopes given Blind. Imo it’s probably not worth jumping companies for anything less than a 10-20% raise unless the career opportunities are a lot better, or there’s something wrong with your current work / another compelling reason.
Agreed. But, Google WLB can be great for 90% of people. No PIP culture. Can internally rotate teams. And stock growth is great.
3 years exp and low ball? That's better than a lot of other people.
FB pays high, only jump for the better wlb, not TC.
Seems to be normal L4/E4 compensation to me. Yes, with competing offers you should be able to get more stocks initially, but it will even out anyway later.
You need competing offers. They don’t match your existing TC
Which is dumb because that's the most obvious "competing offer" you have lol
Does google match non faang?
