Background: PhD in EE from brand-name school, self-trained in ML/DL. ~3YOE in SWE (with /some/ ML) after the PhD. Did the onsite tour and got like 6 offers. A few are interesting: (all offer numbers are predicted after negotiations shake out- I have good signals on the numbers, so it's not just hot air) Meta | L5 | General ML pipeline | 530 TC (splitting signon bonus over a few years) Google | L5 | Specific C++ SWE team | 485 TC ArgoAI | L5 | Specific ML team | 430 TC (240 base+bonus; 190 RSUs) Concerns: - Meta's medium-term prospects - will the stock price hold? Perhaps joining when it's low is a good thing... - Likely recession coming up in USA - good to be at a big-tech firm when it comes? - With Google, I'll be taking a step away from ML/AI for a while, will this stall my progression, or is generalism a strength for L5-L6 promo (there's a world where this team needs someone with ML background, so who knows) - Relative bar for L5 at each - long-term career implications? - Relative ease of hitting L6 at the each - Value of the FAANG gold star on the resume :-P - Argo likely leans into my strengths the most - fastest building of specialty - Argo's RSUs are non-liquid. I have good reason to believe their 12.5B valuation, but it likely does not consider some of the more recent AV IPO flops (RIVN, AUR) - AVs are cool and I want one ;-) Blind tax! YOE: 4 with semi-relevant PhD TC: 70k when I left my failing startup You can vote for multiple if you think some are equal-ish #google #meta #argoai #argo #tc #offer
Stick to ml.. don't join google
Hi, Could you clarify what general ML pipeline is at Meta? Is it a research scientist role or ML SWE?
Which one you joined?
Dude target 550-600k at-least New grads get that much.
Hah! Well Meta as much as told me that I'd get that 530k number if I had a strong competing offer come in (which I do), so I don't think I'm blowing hot air over here.
lol mad 😂
