Google Offer Rescinded

You gotta be f**kin kidding me man. Ridiculous interview process, people constantly not showing up to interviews (etc. it's been discussed to death), but after a couple of months of on-and-off, I FINALLY get the interviews completed with excellent feedback. I get a verbal offer, and everything gets approved through the ranks (I believe VP level even). I was set to receive the WRITTEN offer today, then the recruiter called for a "quick chat", and no warning drops the "thank you for interviewing, however we're having to step back on the offer". Role has been closed, offer rescinded. Didn't even begin a background check or anything. Is Google next for a wave of layoffs? TC: 241k YOE: 4

Should be happy, it’s better than joining and getting laid off in few weeks.

but then I'd have gotten severance

Citibank VkbK27 Mar 20, 2023

There is some minimum service requirements for severance

My offer with another company was rescinded last month after it was signed (I’m the midst of lawsuit with them). These days companies are not being held accountable and can do what they want ugh.

Lawsuit based on what?

Intercontinental Exchange MM233 Mar 20, 2023

Based on the number of months being paid in my severance package. My lawyer can explain it better than me.

Technically, it isn't a rescind if the offer hadn't been signed yet

Where were you when he had that boring party last weekend. We could have used some of this charm!

Google has lost its credibility recently. No more 👑 of tech world IMO.

Citibank VkbK27 Mar 20, 2023

It was verbal offer.

Oak Street Health worstu Mar 20, 2023

op is your feedback valid?

Google AnP04 Mar 20, 2023

This is not called rescinded. You were never offered. People inside are getting laid off, and worried about more layoffs to come no wonder they are not hiring new candidates? In this economic environment even a written offer is not a guarantee. Good luck!

Going to disagree on this one. When a recruiter sends emails to keep me in the loop, saying an offer is being drafted, the offer is being approved, saying they'll send it to me shortly, THEN calling to "cancel the role"... I'd say that's rescinded.

Google AnP04 Mar 21, 2023

Well sorry but I have to disagree on this one. Recruiter actually doesn’t make the offer. It’s a VP or SVP that makes the final approval and they are the ones who know where the head count is. Basically your offer did not get approved most likely because there are no HCs, if it did, it would land in your inbox. This is probably semantics, but rescinded usually means you got a written offer, you accepted by signing acceptance and then the company turns around and pulls the offer.
