Hi, Need some advice. I have an offer from Google for L4 SW/ML roles but its in Pittsburgh. I also have an offer from Alexa Amazon @L5 in Boston. I am confused between the two. Any advice on WLB, Compensation, etc? I am not sure about Pittsburgh as my location though. I would prefer MTV or NYC. Is it really easy to transfer internally within Google after a year to another location. Also, anyone has any idea on L4 TC for Pittsburgh?
Amazon Boston hands down
You’ve posted before, right? Both cities are great, but very, very different cultures and COL. Suggest you discuss with your recruiter and visit the offices in person if you’re still on the fence.
This. Take some time to spend at least a couple of days in both cities. It could be the tiebreaker if TC is close
Having lived in both, I always got the cold shoulder from people in Boston, but Pittsburghers are some of the nicest people on the planet...
Agree with this. Boston wins hands-down for history, culture, and architectural beauty, but it’s pretty insular IME. Pittsburgh is a special place. Really sweet, down-to-earth people and great community spirit. And the cost of living is remarkable. I recently talked with a professional bike messenger who is buying a house ...because that’s entirely possible on his salary. 🤯 Such a difference from the Bay Area!
Boston is expensive as well Don’t know about Pittsburgh
Heard really good things about Pittsburgh. If you're thinking of having a family and settling down, it seems like a good place.
Would love to know what your L4 Google numbers were
Mind updating the number?

You have an offer but no salary info??? That's not an offer.
As in they are reviewing it with Compensation Committee. I don't have the numbers yet. The recruiter is asking me for some numbers.
Ask the recruiter for the pay range for the position. G recruiter gave me a range.
