I have been rejected from Google phone screening even though it was excellent from my end. I was interviewed for Embedded Software Position. Recruiter is asking me to apply after 12-18months. Is it true that cool down period is that long? Note: When I asked why I am being rejected, there is no meaningful response. Except I was told that most of google engineers were able to get in only after few try. So I was asked to reapply after 12-18months. How to deal with such situation. If anyone else has experienced same, please share your experience #engineering #software #swe #google YOE 10 TC 104K
How did you get to the interview if you failed the phone screen?
I was rejected during phone screen. I even did not go till virtual on-site
If the phone screen couldn’t be cleared then they likely need you to work on a fair amount before being ready for onsite so 12-18 months makes sense
Most companies don't give feedback for the phone interview.
Understandable. But my concern is waiting for 12-18months to reapply. I wanted to check with others experience that is it really I need to wait that long????
Yeah that's pretty standard across tech. If you were close recruiters might reach out sooner
hey, at least you got a phone screen, all I've gotten so far is 🦗
The cooldown for failed interviews is kept at 12+ months to reduce the load on interviewers. There are tons of folks interviewing for generalist SWE positions and many of them do it without prepping. G believes in giving them a chance, but if there is no cooldown, then it would just overwhelm their interviewers. So the cooldown period allows them to give a chance to all the folks without stressing it out
It wasn’t excellent. The phone bar is far lower than the on site. If you did remotely well it would be 6 months not 12-18. Stop asking 12-18 months you received that info from the source. So apply 12-18 months and hope you have a good referral
Sucks to hear that, I don't know what problem you got but the phone screen is usually a lightweight version of the onsite. So although 12 months is a long time, some companies will say 6 months sometimes, its a good time window to study and prepare for the next round of interviews. Also, I would highly recommend doing other interviews with other companies before then, you might get a better offer or at least get more practice in.
You are extremely ill prepared if you failed phone screen and thought you had done well (btw interviewers are trained to be nice) And your concern is that you have to wait too long to reapply? (and "how to deal with such situation"?) Please take the time to improve yourself, sorry I don't think you'll be ready even in a year with that mentality
Apply after 12-18 months.
Waiting for 12-18 months is really frustrating. I did not even get chance to be interviewed on-site. I was rejected during phone screen itself. Does that even make sense?
Yes, that makes sense. Why would recruiters waste time on a full loop when you couldn't even clear the phone screen?
