Hi, I have a Google Product Analyst onsite coming up (done with the technical screen), and the recruiter sent me a guide to prepare that seems to be very similar to the Data Scientist role. I am trying to understand the differences between the two roles and also how in-depth some of the SQL/probability questions can be, especially as there are 5 interviews and they indicated Statistics to be a large part of it. Is it common to be expected to show calculations such as z/p values or is it more logic-based? Also how advanced can SQL questions get, I have seen conflicting responses across different resources. Thanks. TC: $105K YOE : 4 #google #productanalyst #datascience #googleinterview

RIP Google Core Employees replaced with Mexico and India Workers
What I heard is that they do similar work, pay is 20% different. Data Scientist requires a PhD usually at Google
For what it’s worth I’ve heard of roles like “marketing data scientist” that don’t require PhD, but obviously the pay and requirement are different.
I wasn’t quizzed outright on any statistical concepts or definitions. Definitely no probability (although I prepared for it). I had a lot of business case questions where I had to explain how I would construct my analyses to answer the questions (think hypothesis tests and regression models). You’ll want to be able to explain why you used the methods you chose and how you would interpret the results (which demonstrates statistical knowledge). I didn’t think the SQL questions were very complex. From what I’ve read elsewhere, it seems like the interviews can vary greatly. I wonder if the interviewers cater their questions to what you write in your resume and questionnaire (I didn’t lean heavily on stats). I was approved for L3 last April. Good luck!!
For probability and statistics, what does the question format or layout look like?
It starts with a business case question and then you offer how you would answer that question with analytics and statistics
I got a Bayes Theorem question and some experimentation questions, but the SQL is important. It can get involved, so be good with joins and window functions.
Did you get the role?
Got hit with everything from causal inference to probability to SQL to leadership and behavioral questions
Lol why?
I wish I knew, there were questions for people that manage teams. I was surprised. I think I did well so hopefully I get a good offer
Lc sql medium. Also yoe?
