Google Referral Process

I recently (in the past week) applied for a role at Google and a good friend of mine just submitted a referral for me. Based on the fact that this referral is coming after I submitted my application, will I not benefit at all from my friend’s referral? If that is the case, should I consider applying to new relevant roles now that I have been referred? Thank you in advance.

From my experience as someone trying Google, yes and yes. Reference is irrelevant for the one you already applied. With your referral, you can apply to 3 jobs, I think in 3 months. It's possible you are only allowed to apply to total of 3 jobs.

You will benefit from the referral, but your friend won't get a referral bonus :)

What if only 1 of 3 referrals is used for an application and the other 2 expire after a month but you see another job you want to apply for after that. Would it be better to ask the friend to create another referral or would applying without it have the same effect?

Creating referrals is very easy now. There is one process where you get an invitation link and don't even have to share your resume with your contact. I would just ask for a new referral to make sure.

What I did was applied again using a different email address in reply to the referral my friend sent.

I wouldn't dare do that with Google as eventually you end up in the same system!

When people submit referrals on your behalf, do they tell Google a specific job opening they think you would be good for or is it more about the person and why they’d be a good colleague?
