Does google train new SWE-SRE hires? I will be switching from SWE(other company) to SWE-SRE(google). I have designed many complex algorithms and workflows but only know distributed system in theory (only maintained 3/4 service at a time). Can anyone confirm if google SWE-SRE enginners go through training (are they publicly available? Maybe the TOC?) Otherwise please provide some guidelines on what to look for. I dont want to be the bottleneck on team (my SWE skills are good). GTC: 165 EURO (first year). YOE: 3.0 Level: SRE-III (L4)
As an SRE, you'll have to go through many tutorials like: how to copy-paste from Stackoverflow but make it seem like you wrote it from scratch and how to dodge oncall responsibilities by asking whether it's the right problem to be solving.
Haha, I know you are joking but I am good at solving problems and writing codes. I also want to work hard as long as I am working 40 hours on average. I was looking for some tips to make sure I know enough to be competitive with SWE-SREs who got promoted internally.
Promotion in SRE l4 to l5 usually take 3-4 years on average, keep in mind you will be competing with top tier folks gl. Also if the team don’t have good projects it will take longer
As an L3, you'll be taken care of, don't worry
Folks with 0 YOE are hired into the same roles and do just fine :)
SRE-III is L4. I will edit the post
