I don't see much about security engineers at Google on here. Is it worth it? Thinking of going from 5 years of pentesting to a position there. From a normal SWE perspective that'd be about L4-L5 range. Do they measure levels the same for security? Also what would be an expected TC for the position with 5 years experience?
I was gonna look into it but ended up getting obsessed with bug bounties instead. You can pull 150-200 out of it if you're decent
I consistently debate doing this as well. It's a grey area at my current job though..
Side gig?
base would be similar to SWE but stock a bit lower and yes you will get hit with leetcode in onsite.
5yrs experience doesn't mean anything. Google doesn't pay based on years, it pays based on talent. Security is just a specialization of SWE, it pays the same.
Thanks for the response. Do you by any chance know if the interview would then be heavily coding focused like a normal SWE position? My experience is moreso with scripting and understanding the security of environments rather than full on developing with a more traditional language, and I'd hate for that to be the reason I don't interview ASAP.
Same interview as SWE with a focus on security concepts. If you want the same pay you need the same level of broad skills.
