Hi all, just got an offer for google’s software engineering residency program and was wondering if i should take it. My goal is to eventually work as an SWE in a FAANG company and currently i have a return offer from a second tier tech company but I want to know of this program would be better to break into Google itself. To provide context I am a graduating senior from a mid-tier CS program. any insights would be appreciated!
Take return offer study for a year or two and get a real SWE position for more comp.
definitely go for it if your goal is to become a SWE at FANG. this is a no brainer
One of my friends joined it last year . The pay is non-negotiable , but it’s an easy way to get your foot in the door . The conversion rate after 1 year is high ( Avg performance and above means conversion generally ) , but the location might not be the same post the program .
Post conversion I assume one would be on the same compensation structure as normal L3? Also did you know if they had to interview again with google to be converted or if it was just based on your job performance?
Yes , a new grad L3 . There was no full round of interviews , but the team match process could get technical sometimes
