Cleared HC with google and waiting for a team match. I have heard team match can take 4-6 months at worst. Is it ok, if I take another offer and wait for the team match before making a jump ? Anyone who did the same ? I am worried I might be stuck in the TM process for months. #google
What level did you get approval for? TM took me less than a week but I wasn’t picky about my team and I’m also L6. I knew an L3 who was very picky and only wanted to join a team that was exciting and had the right mix of diversity. Exciting teams at Google to an outsider are honestly few and far between. It’s not until you’re inside and realize where in the system your team fits that you might find excitement about the larger picture, if at all. My advice to everyone that asks me is to just accept the team you match with that has good WLB, that’s it. The rest will follow, especially since it takes 6-12 months to ramp up depending on your level and experience, and by the 12 month mark you can just transfer to another team that you find more exciting without having to worry about not having a paycheck in between or waiting on recruiters to negotiate numbers. Just get your foot in the door on a team that doesn’t suck and grow from there. The team won’t feel let down by your transferring since they still would have gotten work out of you in that year anyway and most people tend to transfer after about 2 years on a team so internal churn is fully expected.
thanks for the advice. Its a L4 role. I am more worried about the timelines for the team match. Can I hold the HC approval as its valid for 1 year ? Should I tell my recruiter the current state I am in? too many questions I have right now.
The 1 year validity isn’t set in stone, it’s just what people have been able to estimate based on experience. Some on here have had much less than a year before being told they need to start over. L4 will have much less of a problem for the timeline than L3 will. Depending on your office preferences I’d expect you’ll find potential matches in 1-2 weeks, which then leads to an offer. If you’re trying to be picky though and find the “perfect” team then sure go accept an offer somewhere else and then quit in 2-10 months. The new employee will hate it but you wouldn’t be doing this if you cared about what they think. You just need the paycheck to hold you over. If you’re in a job right now though and it’s not unbearable then I’d suggest you hang tight and wait on G rather than going for another offer.
Hi op, I am in the same boat, what location are you up for?
I am open for any location in US, but my main concern is the timelines for team match.
How long have you been waiting?
What role?
Any updates op?
