I was referred to a role at Google (NON TECH POSITION) and didn't hear back then recruiter reached out to me asking if I was interested in another role (more entry level). I responded I'm interested and available for a call. Now the recruiter is asking me for an unofficial transcript before I even get on the phone. Is this normal? My cumulative GPA was 3.0 and my major GPA was 3.6. My minor also is not in my transcript or my degree but I did graduate with one. My transcript will also take 2 weeks to arrive since it's from out of country. Is it worth it to pursue this opportunity at this point or wait a few more years and apply once I have more experience and can completely avoid this transcript question. TC: 75K YOE: 2
From what I've heard, it's not given very much weight as a signal. And anecdotally, my GPA was below 3 and I still got hired.
Do you really want to work for someone who cares about your college transcripts?
Didn't Google publicly state that they'd stop that practice? I could've sworn I read that somewhere.
They don’t care about GPA. They don’t care about your courses. Not sure why they request it, maybe just to see you took college classes.
I don’t know what Google’s transcript requirements are, but i doubt there’s any harm in applying now. AFAIK the cutoff for requesting transcripts is 3yoe and you’re at 2yoe; if you got rejected and had to wait 1 year cooling off period you’d be past the cutoff then.
So a follow up question, my gpa is really bad I went to hiring committee without team match and after they got my transcript it was reject from there. I could’ve done better in one interview so def wasn’t make or break but for future interviews with google will they ignore my gpa though they have my transcript at hand? Or will it be something I’ll have to deal with?
What was your GPA?
