Failed hard on a non-tech Google interview about 10 years ago. Possible I'm on a forever blacklist? I'm now somewhat prominent in my field but NEVER get contacted by google recruiters.
Doubtful. Recruiters are rabid
Here's a question for all engineers...would you work with a recruiter that was more like a sports agent than a lowly recruiter? At one point I was thinking of repping engineers I know who are high performing to get better deals. HR and companies don't like me for that reason...I work for the underdogs.
Why doesn't that exist? Engineers are the professional athletes of the sports world. Imagine if Addy Osmani and John Papa had an agent that would find then the best contract? Hmmm, you may be on to something
Message a recruiter that's hiring for a role you want and have a chat with them. You may have slipped their radar. I'll share with you a crazy secret — did you know recruiters are people and if you treat them nicely like everyone else, they'll be nice back? Plus, they even speak English! Crazy, I know!
Why are you being a jackass?
Cause I'm Johnny Knoxville, and welcome to Jackass!
No company gives a shit to maintain a blacklist for 10 years
Seriously. Every single person who would have interviewed you then has probably moved on by now.
What kind of interview did you fail in, and how did you fail? If you were deemed not a culture fit (aka rude) you might still be blacklisted
It was a business role, literally 10 years ago. First round onsites. I was 24 and hadn't really had much experience, basically just was crappy from beginning to end.
Hustle a new angle
Recruiters are a part of the equation. Personal connections and a solid track record are another part.
