Google will start allowing a subset of customers to pay for cloud services with digital currencies early next year. In addition, Google said it would explore using Coinbase Prime, a service for storing and trading cryptocurrencies. Coinbase will move some of its applications to Google's cloud from Amazon Web Services. WIN-WIN for both parties https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/11/google-selects-coinbase-to-take-cloud-payments-with-cryptocurrencies.html
No one I know uses crypto for payment. It is primarily for pump and dump purposes.
Crypto is hardly ever used as a currency for purchasing regular goods and services. Most people who it are either 1. Doing something illegal and want to hide their finances 2. Gambling on other suckers to buy it and inflate the value. If Google Cloud starts to accept payment in crypto, the platform will attract spammers who wish to hide their transactions.
^ +1. Back in my torrent and Usenet days. Crypto became the way to buy into some private communities. Became difficult to for these places to pay for hosting, as nobody wanted to tie their identity. Believe there were a few sketchy places accepting crypto for hosting though. Think like hosting in iran or similar.
I’m sorry but this is a garbage decision, by Oracle Cloud dropout execs. Bad.
Yikes
this is just a gimmick to get coin base as a customer
It’s bigger than that ,many crypto miners currently using AWS might switch to google cloud
u right
Anything in coinbase is not "crypto" in the sense that it is not anonymous anymore.
crypto still a thing?
Herbalife is still a thing too, but rational people understand it’s a pyramid and avoid it.
