Hi, I'm a noogler and I read that google has free cell service reimbursement. On the website I ordered a plan but I later found out the plan is in Google's name. When I asked the provider, they said Google can look at anything I do (i.e. calls, texts, internet usage etc). I have a work profile on my phone so obviously I need service for that, but since it's my personal device I also use it for personal use, some of which I would much rather not have a corporation to have access to look at whenever they want. I didn't want to get the corp phone because juggling two phones seems dumb, especially because the only use for the corp phone would be to get oncall pings and check email. I can do that on my personal phone with the basic privilege thing. But now I'm strongly considering getting the corp phone and not using the corp cell plan. What are blind's thoughts on this? Am I overreacting or should I just stop being cheap and pay out of pocket for my cell plan? P.S. I'm aware there is an option to reimburse a plan that I already own, but that requires monthly pings to my manager. I'm new and don't want to be a nuisance to my manager, especially for something so mundane and unimportant as a 30-40$ monthly reimbursement charge. Thanks #google #perks
Always go two phones. I leave my work device on my desk basically at all times. That way I’m never bothered after hours. Workday is probably better at WLB than Google but still, gotta look after #1 (which is you, not Sundar).
Is the corp cell plan provided only for certain roles within the company?
No all fulltime SWEs are eligible for both a cell plan and a phone.
And by cell plan I assume you mean plan for Google Fi?
That is one of Google's best benefits. Not just the plan, but they also let you upgrade your device every year.
how is something that has at most 0.9K cash value per year one of google's best benefits? thats like 0.7% of my cash salary (not including bonus or stocks). Are you familiar with this benefit? Is there a way I can use it and have privacy?
Well it is not better than your salary, but better than the massages you need to be in CA to use and that stuff. You also get a new phone every year... basically whenever you feel like it.
Assortment of free corp phones at: go/freeswag

Suck it up and juggle two phones. Strict wall of separation between work and personal device. You want your personal phone subject to discovery in a lawsuit?
discovery/lawsuits didn't even occur to me, and I don't think theyre a real concern but Im pretty sure yeah ill just go with a second phone.
