Google downleveled to L3

I’m honestly somewhat surprised that Google gave me L3. Currently at Microsoft at 62 Meta offer for E4 Snap offer for L4 Doordash offer for E5 I’ve already told all of this to Google recruiter. One Google interview went badly due to interviewer asking JavaScript async syntax for a backend track. I’m sorry I didn’t memorize Promise.any, Promise.all syntax. Has anyone else got Google downleveled like this? Tc: 150k Will go to 350-400 with current offers

YOE?

Why does their yoe matter in this scenario

4.5 yoe

In general, we tend to overestimate our performance

Google simply underestimated OPs value. His competing offers didn’t, forget google.

If you know it’s an overestimation, just correct for that by scaling back expectations.

In the past you were rejected at level 4. Due to the high turnaround rate now Google hires crazy and gave lots of down level offers like yours.

FactSet bumfarts OP Mar 21, 2022

Yeah that's what I thought of this scenario tbh, makes sense

I suggest you treat L3 from Google as a soft rejection. They know you're probably not going to take it, and if you do, then they really got their money's worth. Doordash E5 is a great opportunity and would allow you to interview for other senior-level positions in the future. Downleveling happens, especially at G. I took L4 with around the same YOE and kind of regret it. Even with clear path to promo, it still takes time and hard work, and random reorgs can fuck your shit up

Makes sense, likely will do doordash or snap, currently negotiating. Either way, it'll be a good growth opportunity

It's unfair for the interviewer to ask you something irrelevant. Did you tell this to your recruiter? Try to ask for an additional round.

FactSet bumfarts OP Mar 22, 2022

I told the recruiter but unfortunately I don't think it mattered, hence soft rejection, I'll ask specifically for additional round, thanks for the idea

Microsoft seeyousee Mar 22, 2022

Why are they asking Javascript syntax? I thought it just LC until L4

FactSet bumfarts OP Mar 22, 2022

That's what I thought too :) i did design interviews for other companies but this wasn't even a design question, it was async syntax question with design sprinkled

Google $m7🐶 Mar 25, 2022

Its basically a rejection lol. If u fail interview for L+1 but would pass for L google will rather give you L offer than reject. Dont accept it if you dont want it
