Google laptop shipping delays
Did anyone not receive their laptops before their start date at Google? I’m supposed to start Monday but I don’t have a tracking number for my laptop yet. Oddly enough, I have received almost everything minus the laptop and security keys. I emailed the onboarding and they just keep saying don’t worry about it but at this point there is no way it gets here before Monday. I don’t think they deliver on Saturdays or sundays.
I got mine on the Friday of my first week, joined during covid though. No stress, just chill until you get it. Maybe your manager can help you get a loaner if you go to the office?
What did you do until leading up to that Friday? They have loaners? Can I use a loaner to do my credentials appointment?
Chilling and a few meetings. Yeah they have loaners in the office. I'd recommend going to your assigned office on Monday and asking at the reception. Also they usually have security keys at stuff vending machines. I don't remember for sure about the credentials appointment but I don't see why it shouldn't work on a loaner.
Paid vacation, yay! :p It'll take a week at Max. If you'll be in office you can pick up a loaner. One good thing about Google is that almost nothing's on your laptop and it's so easy to switch laptops temporarily and permanently

You don't iirc, but it's been a long time since I used one. Upd: turns out you're right, damn. Tough luck. But don't worry about it, it's not your fault and people are nice enough to understand.

Were you able to get a loaner laptop?
No, I just didn’t work or go to the office until I got my credentials setup. Orientation didn’t even start until the next week
I had the same issue - they sent my tracking number to my work email, but I had no way to access it 😂 found out once I got logged in. Don’t stress about it, onboarding is not a smooth process in tech.

When did yours come in? I’m hoping that’s the case for me. It might already have been shipped just no tracking
Around Wed the week before. But not sure why you say no delivery on Sat, I do get deliveries on Sat
If you're in the US, FedEx absolutely delivers on Sat and Sun. But like others have said, r-e-l-a-x. Not much happens first week. You're just expected to get credentials done so you're online and do a couple quick trainings.
Same happened to other people I know. Anyway, don't expect to do much in the first week. Welcome to Google.
Did they pretty much treat it like extra vacation days? Should I just expect to not do anything because I don’t think I can really go into the office without it right?
AFAIR You'll attend two meetings at the beginning and the end of the first week. The rest of the time you're doing pretty much nothing. Then on the second week GTI starts.
