https://arstechnica.com/google/2024/01/google-lays-off-dozens-from-x-labs-wants-projects-to-seek-outside-funding/ "Google wants projects to take outside venture capital as part of budget cuts."
Wasn't X Labs all the smartest? I have positions open for hard-core low level distributed ML if wanted. Working on custom chips. Yes, including free banana 🍌
It says support staff only. I guess EA, HR only
That’s not true. Some PMs, SWE, and others have been impacted.
"We’re expanding our approach to focus on spinning out more projects as independent companies funded through market-based capital." .... Would be interesting to watch which VC funds their wild projects and super expensive rest and vest headcount.
What % got laid off?
I thought this would be coming. Spoke with someone a week or so ago who works at one of the bets and it sounds like shit’s about to get real there. Many have left on their own accord, many talented folks who stuck around are now jumping ship and that leaves the coasters. As soon as the nets got moved under the CFO that was going to drastically change how they operated. Not necessarily a bad thing to push for more maturity but I definitely don’t see the old X culture coming back.
Anyone looking actively for Amazon SDE roles in Seattle, dm me.
I've been there. Very poorly run ventures https://www.teamblind.com/post/[Update---More-tips]-Got-laid-off-from-Meta-in-2023---My-top-tips-to-get-back-in-the-game-DjOJFYWa
Sundar is the king of layoffs. I feel sorry for Zuck who got all the backlash.
