I am trying to get two friends signed up for Coinbase and they are already wanting to give up. Coinbase gives you thirty seconds to receive an SMS. It isn't always fast enough. Then I try to reset a password via email. Now their bank email isn't on time either. And now everyone is wanting to push end users to understand how to manage MFA. The first time I ever used MFA, I got locked out, because our ntp servers kept unsyncing and MFA relies on accurate synced time. Then the MFA backup code failed. I think a whole lot of end users are going to end up locked out of their own money when MFA fails them. I already know people who have lost entire Google ##accounts because of similar issues.
Passkey.
Passkey on Bitwarden is amazing. I still wrestle with Bitwarden a bit with getting it to nudge me to save password changes. We need something that is instant and safe that replaces all email logins.
Too risky for people who only have a single device. And that's the majority of the population.
What's the advantage of blockchain "protocal"? Are you just trying to sound cool by saying blockchain?
Theres no functional advantage. 99% of "block chain" use cases are there just to replace things that already exist while mAking the solutions more complicated and expensive
Simple. So I actually own my login and don't have to rely on an app or company like Google Auth, Duo or whoever to allow me to login.
So instead of free and instant email we get slow and fee-ridden? Nice. Gotta love blockchain π
Instant email? Where does that exist?
Blockchain doesn't solve anything here.
I don't think big tech likes blockchain for anything. Note to self. Don't mention blockchain to any centrally controlled big tech companies. It is ideaology and not actually based on engineering.
Ah, what a crybaby You were told explicitly the engineering downside: It's extremely slower and substantially more expensive. Does not solve anything, only make things worse
Irony, thy name is crypto bro: > It is ideaology and not actually based on engineering. So amazing you would say this while pitching a block chain solution that is worse than existing alternatives in every way
Sounds like you need a better vendor, rather than a new protocol.

Principal Software Engineer TC~300K at Microsoft vs 600K at Meta. Is 300k pretty low for Principal scope?
Open source MFA already exists (rfc 6238 - implemented in apps such as Google Authenticator, Authy, etc ..). The other, more advanced thing is obviously hardware tokens. It's only American financial institutions that insist on SMS.
Yea, but MFA just isn't user friendly. You have to be a nerd to manage it. I think instant messaging would work much better for logins than MFA. MFA is fast but too complicated for a typical end user.
And you donβt have to be a nerd to manage your own crypto keys? Lmao
