I wanted to know if there any Networking Layer2, layer3 work at google? I see some openings in google careers with domain specifically called out as "Software Engineer, Networking" and the skills sets are almost same as some one expects at cisco/juniper type companies. Is the interview process same or different for domain related openings ? I have one coming up in couple of days. #swe #googleinterview
thanks for the replies. With 12 yrs of experience and after some online research I think I should have asked/tried for L6 interview at google. Any suggestions please. But I did not come across any Networking L6 (staff) opening in google careers.
recruiter will recommend an initial level. finally, level is decided by HC, post interview. u can try level up or they can downlevel based on interview. i dont think job requisitions on website mention levels or specific seniority levels except for ballpark years of experience.
Are these networking jobs in google for dev or qa or both ? Im a qa engineer, strong in domain but not sure abt coding if i can meet google standards. Im preparing and planning to do mock test and chk that. Any advice ?
Google is not much bothered about domain based on my discussion with recruiter. They see only hardware and embedded as a separate domain. Networking as regular software job. Although my views differ.
Some update and looking for suggestion: After able to clear the phone screen, i am qualified to attend virtual onsite rounds. The recruiter is asking me to take 4 coding rounds and a googlyness round. No system design nor domain round. Earlier I was updated there would be a talk with hiring manager and there would be a networking domain interview round. But something happened in background over course of time that they want me to interview as a regular SWE candidate and then while team matching networking roles would be checked. Now for L5 level all 4 coding rounds. Not sure what it indicates. I was hoping for domain round since that is my strong point ! Any thoughts / comments ?
Are you sure it's L5? I had a similar experience but they leveled down to L4 before the interview.
I had friends who work at Facebook and Google. You don’t need to know networking because all your work is to write python scripts. You just need to know which API you should call. Networking is fully abstracted. That helps them to hire new grads on lowest salaries.

yes technical infra org has openings for l2/l3 swe. i m joining in july. coding rounds and system design rounds are same as general swe interviews. i had one domain round in addition.
thanks. At what level are you joining ? My interview is for L5. How are L4 level interviews different in comparison with L5 ? I am bit concerned about coding rounds and expectations I hear/read for google. With almost 12yrs experience, i am confident with domain than code.
l5 will have a system design interview. l4 probably doesnt. l5 interview format was 2 coding, 1 system design, 1 domain, 1 googlyness. coding rounds were mostly lc medium level. my prep involved 150 LC and 20-30 mock tests on LC. Plus MIT opencourseware for refreshing CSE fundamentals if u hv time. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUl4u3cNGP61Oq3tWYp6V_F-5jb5L2iHb
