Asking for a friend. He is from Charlotte. He doesn’t know blind app. Google offer he says going to decline because low offer. He is working in HFT and already makes 260k in charlotte. Location- Seattle Basic-160k Bonus 15% RSUs- 400k/4 years. Level -T5 Total ~290k per year. What are his option for higher offer? He was expecting 360k and the recruiter says it is easy to get approval with that number.
He can push for 180 / 600-900 and 100K sign-on with a good competing offer. This is for the West coast, though, not sure if location is a factor (it could be).
Yeah that’s an T4 offer. Tell them that based on your research, this offer is way below expectations of T5. Everybody on blind agrees that the best way to negotiate with Google is to bring competing offers.
Does he have an alternate offer? Google would budge easily with alternate offers.
He doesn’t have an alternate offer. I told him to get an offer. How long google can wait ?
1 year!
Does he want to apply at Snap? He can get 400k. #highriskhighreward
lmao
What’s so funny🤔
Just want to add minor thing. His stock refreshers at Google would be 120k+ per year, so his comp would grow very fast and should exceed the Charlotte equivalent soon
What’s the refresher for T5 exceeds?
140k
Did your friend disclose his current salary to Google? If so, perhaps that is why they lowballed with only 30k more. For T5 in Seattle, TC should be >= 400k/yr
Blind makes you think all T5s are offered 400k+ when in reality 400k is only offered in exceptional cases. A more realistic range for T5 is 300k-370k
400k is high for T5, top 25% offers probably but it's not exceptional. I'm nowhere exceptional and I got 400k offer from Google for T4
Does your friend know how to install an app and register for an account once they learn that blind exists?
Don't you still need an email at one of the selected Silicon Valley companies?
I'm a L4 SWE and that's exactly my TC.
He should tell the recruiter that he's not interested in relocating for anything less than $360. Has to walk away if they don't do it
That's just a pretty good L4 offer, so definitely lowballing. I already know several cases where people only said "are you kidding me", in a polite manner, and Google returned with a much higher offer. Also there's a common way with the competing offers
How do you say that in a polite manner?
"That's a bit lower than I expected"
