I have got offers from both Amazon and Facebook. Yet I failed Google’s phone screen and wasn’t invited onsite. Is this weird? I did pretty good in the phone interview but didn’t reach the final solution interviewer was looking for. I was hoping they would still invite me for onsite but I wasn’t.
I got an offer from google, but got rejected in fb phone interview. A lot of it is luck.
It wasn't the final solution that got you rejected, that's not what Google scores on. It may have been a communication related interview, like you solved the wrong problem, ignored hints, etc. If it was just the final solution you would have gotten a nudge (unless you were out of time in which case it was probably because of slow pace)
Also agree with previous poster a lot of it is luck. Well done on the other interviews, 2 for 3 FAANG is really good
Do you think it would help having one of the other FAANG on my resume if I apply to Google again in some time?
Google has a higher bar than other companies it seems like. Makes sense since their compensation tends to be above anyone else.
Higher bar with phone screen? So there is no margin of getting things wrong on any of they interviews at Google? How can one do that? :(
Not true. Completely depends on the interviewer. I got invited and I didn't think my interview went great at all.
You probably weren’t Googley enough
How can one be more googley over phone?
It’s something that you either are, or aren’t. It can’t be learned.
Tech interviews have a lot of luck involved. So you either got a problem you couldn't solve (large variance) an extra strict interviewer (some random ness) or you sounded like an asshole (argumentative, hard to understand, failing to take hints ECT.)
Luck is involved heavily. There are too many variables involved. It's not weird and it's not your fault. They missed out on you.
This is unreal just take the Facebook offer you can get luckier next time no worries
It happens. Next time you may pass.
Yes i got the same exp. i thought it went very well but was rejected.
