Hi all, I just got an offer from Google L3 (new grad). Product area is platforms and ecosystems. I'm a little worried because it sounds like super low-level/proprietary stuff? They make Chrome, Google Play, Android, etc. How easy would it be to job hop and go back to more mainstream development (generalist/full stack/high level/web) after a few years in this org? Low level/OS is not my area of interest. Any googlers, how is growth/promo/wlb in this product area, is it a good area? Edit: for context, my other offer is FB to boot camp
At L3, it really doesn’t matter what you work on. You’re going to be learning fundamentals that are the same everywhere. If you’re otherwise happy with the offer, work hard. Get to L4. Then take a moment to evaluate your career. It’s easy to transfer within Google, and having L4 Google on your resume will get you interviews just about anywhere.
Do you know much about this PA? Is it a big/well respected PA? Will I have opportunities to grow/promo?
I know P&E very well. It’s a massive org that’s special for Sundar since he basically built it and got to CEO because of it. Massive growth over the past year. Huge influence on the world. Can’t tell you more without knowing more about the team, though. It has everything from low level firmware engineers to front end web tech to hardware to massive distributed systems. Really mature organization. Great googlegeist (basically a happiness survey) scores. A lot of super experienced engineers.
What was your sign on bonus please? I'm expecting an offer
I'm in P&E. Google is shifting its focus onto consumer products alot and imo its a high impact area that is growing.
I am interviewing for the Strategy and Ops role in the P/E org. Can you please provide details on the products?

If is actually good to start low level in my opinion, you will have more insight than your peers when you work on higher level stuff later.
