Google recruiter reached out but I’ve never done leetcode

I am relatively new - 2.5 yoe and a Google recruiter reached out about a front end engineering position. Literally have never touched leetcode ever.. and all I hear about is how Google loves leet code type problems (DS&As) Don’t get me wrong I’m very happy they reached out but I’m screwed right? Really haven’t practiced these types of things since college Tc:96

There is no door near the driver's seat, it's risky too

Front end eng interview will be a lot less LC heavy than SWE

Nope, mine was Leetcode + front end concepts + system design stuff - for a non-senior role. They basically expected me to know everything in the IT universe.

Google gives you all the time in world to prepare. Take it.

Oracle NALG82 Aug 18, 2023

Google allows you to take time to prepare. So ask the recruiter how much max time they can provide you. Generally they will allow upto 6 months ( not sure if anything has changed recently but I was allowed 6 months in 2021 before taking the test). That should be enough time to prepare for lc

FedEx TJxt46 OP Aug 18, 2023

Oh wow.. okay. Didn’t realize they did that, but wouldn’t taking longer also kind of hurt you? More risk of the position being filled?

Nope. Clearing the interviews and waiting for a position is common within Google

I'm on the same boat with Meta. From everything I've heard DSA and Leetcode are extremely important at MAANG. Start studying ASAP and set up your technical as far away in the future as possible. My recruiter scheduled me for 2 weeks and this was NOT enough time to practice so I rescheduled my technical again after trying a mock interview to see where I was. It sounds like you've studied this in college so it may be simpler for you to catch up. Check out grind 75 and adjust it to your preparation time. Good luck.

Good luck to you too!

I would think that tech acronym should include tsla by now. Maybe something like MANTAG or MTnaag, sounds like mt.nag for mountainous amounts of pop ups they have. Good luck buds!

I think Google will provide you with enough resources and time to prepare for their interview that will give you a lot of idea about how their interview may look like. Give it a try, at least you can gain some experience of their interview process, there's nothing to lose.

What is cool down period if you bomb Google interview?

Google AJxC22 Aug 21, 2023

6 months typically

IBM rolrCoastr Aug 18, 2023

That’s not a problem. Just tell them you need time to prepare and touch base again few months out when you’re ready. This is very common.

Motorola l33t8 Aug 18, 2023

Is leetcode only for swe positions? What about for technical management positions : principle > positions ?

Google _________^ Aug 18, 2023

Took me 6 months to get placed on a team...well worth the wait

Take time to prepare - the recruiter wants you to succeed, so they will give it to you. And yes, if you’ve never done LC-style questions, you’re absolutely screwed without sufficient practice.
