How is it changed? The UI for Bing and gpt at least has plenty of real estate for the exact same ads.
Users will get direct answer from chatbot instead of clicking search results link to look for answer - a significant loss to Adsense revenue model.

I have started using bing for weather and news unconsciously in my Android phone. They got it right. Even windows 11 is such a pleasure to use If only they could improve search.
The truth is they can’t.
Not sure if people commenting have a good view of ML world and where Google stands in NLU, knowledge net and data curation. Key differentiator is not LLM, but how soon it can be productized responsibly. That said, it is really surprising that Google did not do due diligence on advertising on such a closely watched product. They are clearly reacting to the market.

Yeah, but if more people are using ChatGPT then they're collecting more training data from real-world use cases which should mean they can improve it faster.
What ppl don’t understand is that it doesn’t matter if ChatGPT or Bard wins. If ppl decides to use AI to find results instead of search engines. It will destroy Google revenue. It is much much harder to monetize chatbot over search engine.
Not as hard as you think. Still ads can be displayed next to your query or as recommendations from the chatbot.
But the margin is much smaller. It’s like switching from cable to streaming. Every company currently needs to switch to streaming or they lose users. But the reality is streaming does not make money, while cable can. Netflix, like Microsoft, doesn’t care, because they didn’t have cable network. (Bing was nonexistent compare to Google) But Google, like other cable companies, need to cannibalize themselves (high margin search to low margin chatbot) or get left behind.
Yeah it probably won’t last long. Now buy $GOOG for an easy 10% profit within a week
